Ethiopia: U.S. Embassy suspends travel to Gondar

The ย U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa is temporarily suspending all travel for U.S. Chief of Mission employees to Gondar until further notice.

The Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) said in a security message to U.S.citizens that the Embassy is monitoring a report of an explosion on January 10, 2017 at approximately 8:30 p.m. at the Entasole Hotel in the town.

โ€œThe Embassy continues to remind U.S. citizens of the risks associated with traveling to Ethiopia at this time,โ€ the security message said.

There were two grenade explosions in the amhara region in a span of one week.

Police said one person was killed and 18 others wounded after a grenade was thrown on Tuesday into the Entasol Hotel in Gondar town.

A grenade explosion hit the Grand Hotel in Bahir Dar Wednesday night. No injuries were reported.
